Dental Industry News Roundup: The First Third of 2015

ICYMI-640x400The year is more than one-third complete. Wow, how time flies. So, in case you missed them, here’s a brief roundup of some of the dental industry news that happened during the first third of 2015:

3D Systems earned a Gold 2015 Edison Award in the Science/Medical/Dental category for its innovative 3DS Healthcare solutions.

Anutra Medical received 510(k) approval from the FDA on a new disposable, feedback aspiration syringe. Additionally, the company launched the Anutra Local Anesthetic Delivery System to buffer local anesthetics.

Aspida introduced the new Aspida Mail 1 plan. This plan will allow practices that only need one or two email addresses a more affordable way to make their email HIPAA complaint. Each Aspida Mail 1 email address with have a total of 5GB of storage. The plan starts at only $10/month.

Convergent Dental, manufacturer of the Solea dental laser, was very busy in the first third of 2015. In addition to signing distribution agreements with Benco and Darby, the company won their own 2015 Gold Edison Award for innovation. And they recently announced new 8/400, 8/600 and 8/1200 hollow waveguides for their Ultraguide Solea handpiece. The new hollow waveguides expand the breadth of applications for Solea,
enabling dentists to perform procedures in the periodontal pocket in addition to other hard and soft tissue procedures.

DOCERAM Medical Ceramics, manufacturer of the Nacera brand of premium zirconium oxide materials for CAD/CAM, showcased a number of new innovations at IDS 2015. Among them were Nacera Pearl Multi-Shade, Multi-Layered Zirconium Oxide milling blanks and Concept “Blue X” liquid for selective, specific translucency augmentation of zirconium oxide.

Hu-Friedy announced their new U.S. Service Program for Surgical and Ortho Instruments. This program offers all private practitioners in the United States that purchase Hu-Friedy branded Surgical or Ortho instruments free servicing for the life of the instrument.

S-Ray, Inc. held their 2015 Annual Meeting via webinar on May 1. Additionally, the company announced their annual Investor Day will be held in Portland, OR on May 29.

Whole You entered the dental space with the acquisition of oral appliance company Respire Medical. The company’s mission is to create innovative healthcare solutions to help those with sensory and physical mobility challenges experience life more fully.
